Are Padder premiums/fees refundable?
For both Padder Guarantor and Padder Deposit, what you pay is an insurance premium, not a deposit or a landlord fee.
That means:
- Once your policy is issued and your lease is signed, the premium is non-refundable.
- It is not returned at move-out, even if:
- You never miss a payment
- You move out early
- You “don’t use” the coverage
Behind the scenes, that one-time premium is what allows Padder to take on the risk of paying your landlord if there’s a covered loss (unpaid base rent / last month’s rent) during the policy term.
When a refund or reversal may be possible
There are a few limited situations where premiums/fees may be reversed or refunded:
Lease never completed
- You paid an invoice, but your lease was never signed, or
- Your landlord ultimately didn’t proceed with renting you the unit, and
- A Padder policy was never bound for that lease.
Operational errors (wrong amount, duplicate payment, wrong policy)
- You were charged twice for the same policy
- You were charged the wrong amount
- Your payment was applied to the wrong lease/unit
These are exceptions, not general cancellation rights. Once a policy is correctly issued for a valid lease, the premium is considered earned for the risk period.
Who to contact if you believe there’s been an error
If you believe:
- You were charged incorrectly
- Your lease never went ahead but you were still billed
- The wrong policy, unit, or amount appears on your invoice or receipt
you should contact Padder right away with:
- Your full name
- Invoice number or policy number (if available)
- A short description of what seems wrong
Use the contact details listed on your invoice or reach out to Padder.
We’ll:
- Review your application and payment history
- Confirm whether a policy was bound
- Advise if a correction or refund is possible
